Launch - Note from the Author

Love is the most powerful force known to mankind. It wrecks kings, destroys barriers, makes us risk everything for a few stolen moments. . . . And all of this makes for a great story.

Reading for the Stars and Moon - What are your favorite sci-fi books and movies?

I can never seem to remember book titles, and I struggle to recall all the plot twists, but the good characters stick with you. They teach you, change you, become a part of you. I aspire to that with my own writing.

Stormy Nights Reviewing & Bloggin' - Crossing In Time (Excerpt #1)

The chubby gun trader shifts his weight and looks up at me, one eye squeezed shut. “What sort of rearm you lookin’ to purchase, ma’am?” He’s enthroned on a maroon chintz armchair in front of a burned-out Walmart.

“Handgun,” I say. “Something easy to aim and shoot.”

Hearts & Scribbles - Ask the Characters: How Difficult Is It to Be a Character in D.L. Orton’s Book?

Isabel: There were times when I wasn't sure I wanted to trust a writer with my life. Still, Ms. Orton cares about the same things I do, and I’m dying to see how things turn out. In the end, I wasn't keen on some of the scarier scenes (and I'm still sad about all those animals), but the author assures me that everything will work out in the end. Right, Diego?

I Love Books - The Journey Is the Reward

What's the moral of the story? Don't take the ones you love for granted. They could disappear at any moment—and time machines are pretty hard to come by. Put your arms around someone you care about and just enjoy the moment. The journey is the reward.

"This is a steadily progressing story of love gone awry, reconciliation, commitment, sacrifice for love and mankind, and time travel. The novel begins with a “interest-catching Prologue, then quickly begins to formulate the story on a solid foundation, constantly building in momentum until it ends in a solid climax, leaving the reader anxious for the next sequel in the story! It is complete with romance, suspense, adventure and life’s lessons."

Kindle and Me - Review

"If you like other universes with the same people, nuclear bombs, physics, emergency preparedness, giving up your life for someone you love, dogs, cats, jokes, finding that one special person, biodomes, peeing on a handkerchief with smoke everywhere, and maybe a way to save us all from our mistakes then this might be for you!"

Wishful Endings - Crossing In Time (Excerpt #2)

“Still...” The gun trader waits for me to meet his eyes. “I s’pose I could use some fancy flavorings on my venison.”

I regard the only overweight man in a sea of famine, disgusted with the whole human race and embarrassed by my own full stomach.

Zerina Blossom's Books - Author Interview

Is anything in your book based on real life experiences or is it purely all imagination?

Who hasn’t looked back at a turning point in his or her life and wondered how things might have played out differently?

I met and fell in love with the man I’m married to when we were twenty-eight, and one of the first trips we took together was to attend the wedding of his best buddy from college. At the reception, I ended up seated next to my husband’s ex-girlfriend! Despite an awkward introduction, she and I hit if off, and we ended up comparing notes. (You should have seen his face when he realized we were talking about him.) At the end of the evening, she said something that stuck with me: I wish I would have met him at a different time in my life.

Celticlady's Reviews - How Does Time Travel Work in the Between Two Evils Multiverse?

Take a shower curtain, some ants, and a bowling ball.

Start with the shower curtain. It’s a two-dimensional object in a 3-dimensional world. Imagine, now, that you are an ant, walking, talking, and shagging other ants on this thin, flexible membrane (or a "brane" in physics-speak). Layered above and below you are a million other shower curtains, all of them with their own allotment of ants (some of which get paid 78 cents on the dollar due to slight differences in their copulatory organs).

"I enjoy a good time travel and that is what this book is. It has a great romance and a second chance at love. I enjoyed the world the author created and thought that the author did a great job traveling in time."

Colorimetry - Lost Time (Excerpt #1)

I lie in the greenish half-light, my lungs on fire, panic forcing out any rational thought.
And then I remember where I am—or rather where I should be.

I pound my fists against the translucent coffin lid until I manage to hit the release lever. The top pops open and frigid air rushes in, smelling of damp earth and evergreens.

I gasp for breath, my heart pounding.

The last thing I remember is a panicked voice shouting to abort the mission. Stop the countdown because…

fuonlyknew - Review

"The beginning swiftly pulls you in. The plot deepens and the characters emerge. And as you draw near to the conclusion, you’re gripped in a vise of suspense that brings tears to your eyes, fearing and hoping for what comes last."

Angels With Attitude Book Reviews - Dead Time (Excerpt #1)

I’m trying to be brave, Mom, but it’s harder than I thought.

All the jeeps and other equipment are gone now, and I count four dingy biosuits slogging toward me through the downpour. I gaze up at the sloped wall of the massive biodome, wishing it didn’t look so… alien.

What would Madders do?

He’d be collecting data, not blubbering like a D-2 who fell off a swing and scraped her knee. Identify the problem, engineer a solution, and Bob’s your uncle.

Bookworm Lisa - Review

"The book involves time travel, an orb with a message, seashells, love, and secret government projects. It is a fascinating book."

Booklove - Review

"The book, Crossing In Time was a one sit read for me with intriguing and captivating characters, unique, thrilling and original plot and a hooking prose . A perfect read for every Sci-Fi and romance lover."

Book Cover
A Man. A Vampire. A love story.
A MORTAL INDISCRETION: AUTHOR'S CUT
Barbra E. Ross
Genre: Paranormal Romance, Suspense
Publication Date: April 27, 2016
One night changed everything for bachelor Justin Bertolli. A womanizer at heart, never quite ready to settle down, he meets the woman who would change his life forever. Ambra Taylor is that woman, but is she all that Justin bargained for?
Told from a male protagonist point of view, A Mortal Indiscretion delivers wholly unique narratives that don’t succumb to the same old recycled concepts. Everything unravels in Justin’s world. Although Ambra is a vampire, she is the vulnerable one of the two characters, providing a refreshing twist on standard tales. She is not waiting for her prince to come save her on his white horse. She simply desires love, to feel human love again and will do anything to protect the love of Justin.
When Justin discovers the truth about who and what she is, will he still love her? Will he still want her? Find out, as their hearts collide in this epic tale of love.
Fabulous book. Out of the ordinary and unusual love story/vampire book. Very well written and a big read which had my attention from the beginning. Love the characters and plot. Was juicy, exciting and hated to put down. Wanted to keep reading and reading but didn't want the story to end.
- Lettyann Weber, Amazon Reviewer
I have just finished reading this book and I loved it. I was completely captivated by the whole story ... The skill of the writer was her ability to make you feel that you were actually watching their romance unfold opposed to reading about it. ... If you love a brilliant romance twists and turns along the way, then this is an absolute must read . . . you won't be disappointed.

Excerpt 2 from Chapter One

We were led to a table back in a dimly lit corner. I was glad. I wanted no interruptions.  The waiter came and poured our waters. I was watching her every move. She took the menu and opened it. I did mine and looked over it at her. Her eyes were scanning the menu and I just watched her. The waiter asked what we wanted to start with.
  “I’ll take a soda,” I told him.
“And for the lady,” he inquired.
She placed the menu down and looked into my eyes.
  “Him,” she stated, plainly.
“Pardon me,” the waiter tried to clarify.
I stared at her, stunned by her words.
“The same for the lady,” I answered quickly, not looking his way. He left us, shaking his head.
Her scent filled the air. I reached out my hands and she took them.
“What is your name,” I asked softly, loving the look of her eyes over the glow of the candle on the table.
   “Ambra,” she answered.
   “Ambra,” I repeated.
She smiled and let out a soft laugh. Her hands were so soft in mine.
“I have been thinking about what happened the night we met, it was very…” I started.
“Intense,” she finished. “I cannot forget it either. I did not plan on that happening.” She had a slight English accent.
“I know, right? I…I have never done it…. I mean… done that… before…either,” I added. I shook my head; I had never tripped over my own words before.
“Is your lady friend terribly hurt? I did not mean to cause such a commotion.”
“Oh, you mean Racheal?” I snickered. “She was angry with me, but it’s ok. I mean, I have never done anything like that to her before. She is just someone I see on a casual basis,” I tried to explain.
“So this Racheal, is she… is she committed to you?”
   “Committed?” I questioned.
“Is she, are you two… how do you say it…seriously involved?”
“No, no. She is not my girlfriend if that is what you mean,” I answered. I looked right in her eyes. “I don’t have anyone who is that close to me.”  I squeezed her hands. I wanted her to know I was interested in her.
She became silent a moment. I felt a tinge of anxiety Maybe she thought I was lying. Or maybe she thought I was the biggest jerk on the planet. I spoke quickly.
“Are you involved with someone?” I asked.
  She shook her head.
“No. I do not have a lover,” she stated.
I breathed a sigh of relief. How she could be single was beyond me. She was so fucking gorgeous.
“Do you want one,” I blurted. I did not know what was wrong with me. “I’m sorry, what I mean is are…. are you looking for someone to…”
“I want you to be my lover, Justin.” All she said. My mouth dropped, but I caught it and clamped up tight.
The waiter came and placed our drinks on the table. He asked for our orders. I told him mine and she shook her head at him. I took a sip of water. I was speechless. No one had ever come right out and said that to me before.
“I believe, that I am infatuated with you,” she continued. I took another gulp of water. I was suddenly wanting a drink. A good stiff drink. “I have tried to calm my desires about you, but I cannot. I have only thought of you since that evening. You are invading my every thought. It is quite amusing to me.”
The waiter brought some bread sticks and I picked one up. I took a bite and could only stare at her. I absolutely did not know what to say. She was so forward, so honest. I liked it, but I didn’t know how to handle it. I had never been approached that way before. I usually laid down the lines. I was taken off guard.
“Justin. Are you not going to speak to me? Have I said too much? Have I misspoken?”
“Say it again. Say my name,” I found myself saying. It was her voice, like music saying my name.
She smiled a little and whispered my name again. It sent warm shivers down my spine.
“How do you know my name? I mean, how did you know how to find me,” I asked.
“I am a little disconcerted, embarrassed…. I have followed you, that eve…” she began.
“I am glad you did,” I said. I was letting it all out. Never done that before.
“Well, I did. And I want an answer,” she said and I was confused.
“I’m sorry. What was the question?”
“Are you going to be my lover? Tonight?”

About Barbra E. Ross

Author Pic
Barbra E Ross lives in Michigan and is a nurse by day, lover of fiction at night. When people ask me what my book is about, I pause a moment because it is not so simple to describe. It is a vampire romance, I say and then, I pray that doesn't scare them away. Because what are books really? I believe that books are a way to escape the daily routines of life.
I wanted to take an ordinary man and put him in fantastic situations. To bring a bit of fantasy down to reality. It is a love story at it's heart. If I can take the reader on a journey and give them a laugh, cry, or simply bring a smile to their face, then it is all worth it. This story helped me through rough times in my life, and I can only hope it will do the same for the reader.

"Good grief, boy!" Gramps yelled. "You drive like an old lady on a Sunday afternoon drive. Don't be afraid to push down on that gas pedal."
"Gramps," Wil sighed. "I'm going the speed limit. Anyway, what is the hurry?"
"The hurry is I hate being a passenger, especially yours," he said, emphasizing each word. "And watch your mouth, boy. You aren't too old for me to give a whoppin' to."
"You're just ticked because they won't let you drive anymore. It's your own fault for not taking care of your eyes. And for the record, I'm not exactly thrilled at the moment having you as a passenger."
"You better watch your attitude, or I'll take this truck back."
"Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was Dad's, right? And I think you told me he wanted you to give it to me. Guess that means it isn't yours to take."
Gramps got a sour look on his stern face, like he'd just sucked on a lime. "Don't you be talking to me like I'm some crazy old coot who's lost his mind. I remember what I said. Shoulda charged you for it, considering the lip I have to put up with every time I'm gonna be in here with you."
"And what makes you think I'm going to drive you around everywhere in this beautiful truck? I'll chauffeur you around in my car."
"That piece of crap? Hmph. Forget it."
Wil stared at the road ahead of them. "You could take a cab, you know. Or the bus." Sam Hill help the poor drivers.
"Nah," Gramps said, slugging back the rest of his coffee and shoving the empty cup in a plastic bag. "I get much more pleasure out of torturing you than I would a stranger."
I noticed. "Alrighty, then. So you got a plan for us, or are we just going to keep going until we run out of gas?"
Gramps crossed his arms over his chest and looked out his window. "First stop is gonna be Elie."
Wil released a sharp breath and squinted. "Seriously? There's, like, 100 people living there."
"Six hundred and fifty."
"Close enough. And I'm sure the census people were able to gather them all in one place and count them at once. C'mon, Gramps. What could possibly be in that small town worth checking out? If we drive straight on, we can get to Portage la Prairie for lunch—"
"Just because a place isn't all lit up like Vegas doesn't mean it shouldn't be visited," Gramps interrupted. "Some places need to be seen because they're gold mines for memories. We're stopping at Elie."
Wil had a smart-butt retort clinging to the tip of his tongue, but he held it there after giving Gramps a side-glance. The old man rested his chin on his right fist and stared out his window.
"Fine. I guess we're stopping at Elie," Wil mumbled.

Like my vote even counted.
